Summer Camps

iPad Camp - Making the transition from middle school to high school can be challenging. Expectations are increased as is academic rigor. This summer, Paul VI will be offering a course on study skills, designed to help students feel prepared and at ease as they enter their freshman year. Some of the skills taught will include planning, organization, studying for tests, and note taking. This one week class, taught by Paul VI faculty, is designed for students of all skill levels. This course is designed for students entering 9th grade.

Math Skills Preparation The Math Skills prep course is designed for students entering their freshman year in the fall who would like to sharpen their math skills. The course is designed for students who will take any level of Algebra I, Geometry, or Algebra II in 9th grade. Some of the topics that will be covered include operations with fractions, order of operations, Algebra basics, Algebraic expressions, equations, fractions, positive and negative numbers, and basic properties of mathematics. Students will master these topics and sharpen math skills through practice and games. This course is designed for students entering 9th grade.

HSPT Prep The HSPT is a standardized test that measures levels of mastery in Math, Reading, and Language Arts skills. The results are used by high schools to place students in the proper courses for their freshmen year as well as, in some cases, award scholarships. This course will review language arts and math skills from the 7th grade year and will prepare students for what they may encounter in the 8th grade year. The students will be introduced to test taking strategies that will be key in mastering the HSPT and other tests that they will encounter. This class is a great way for students entering 7th and 8th grade to work on and perfect their reading and math skills, but also to have that experience in a high school setting.

Robotics In this two-week course, students will build and program the EV3 Mindstorm Robot System. Students will participate in Individual and Team Challenges. We will discover the science, math, and technology used in today’s high tech industries. Students should be entering 7th or 8th grade and no experience is required. There is a 10-student limit for each session of this class so book now! Students will need an iPad for the camp! The cost of the 2-week session is $325. There will be one 2-week session available that run Monday – Thursday each week:

Coding Interested in learning how to code? Want to learn how to develop an App? Spend 2 weeks this summer at Paul VI’s Coding Camp. During this time students will be introduced to coding fundamentals through an approachable, block-based programming language where they will have early success in creating usable apps. This camp will engage students in computational thinking practices and collaboration strategies, as well as industry standard tools authentic to how computer science professionals work. Students will learn about professional opportunities in computer science and how computing can be an integral part of all careers today. The cost of the 2-week program is $325. Science Science is all around us! This summer, Paul VI will host a science camp that will explore the worlds of Chemistry, Biology, and even Physics. Led by Paul VI Science faculty. The camp will utilize our state of the art lab facilities. Some of the many hands on activities will include extracting real DNA from a piece of fruit, a simple dissection, chemical fingerprinting and using solar energy to cook. Join us for a fun journey into the scientific world!

Video Production Everyone loves TV! This summer, you can have your chance to be a filmmaker! Paul VI will host a one-week video production camp, utilizing our state of the art news broadcast facility. Students will learn the basics of camera work, story boarding, and editing with our PVI TV staff. Students will develop and film their own videos over the four days, taking home a souvenir of their work. Our Video Production camp is your first step to becoming a Paul VI High School TV Star.

Drama - Drama is one of our oldest forms or art and expression. In this four week camp, students will learn a variety of acting games and exercises. Improvisation and scene work will be utilized to help foster dramatic skills as well as to create a fun and relaxed environment where campers can be free to find their inner actor. The highlight of this camp will be developing and performing the school version of the Broadway hit, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child. This camp will be led by PVI arts staff and student volunteers. The cost of the 4-week camp is $600. This camp runs four weeks Monday – Thursday: July 7 - July 31 from 5 p.m. - 8 p.m.

Dance Looking for a camp to get you moving this summer? The PVI Dance Camp consists of dance, fitness, and creativity. Throughout this session students will be introduced to proper stretches, strengthening exercises, and recovery exercises to increase progress while improving technique. The camp will explore many areas of dance and choreography while learning different dance combinations. Students will have the opportunity to explore their own creativity through improvisation and choreography exploration. Students will work with current PVI dance instructors along with other dance professionals. The cost of the 1-week camp is $165. There will be one 1-week session available that runs Mondays – Thursdays: July 21 - July 24 from 12 p.m. - 3 p.m.

Band This program is offered to incoming Paul VI students and middle school music students to help develop their skills, knowledge, and appreciation in instrumental music and the performing arts. This group will consist of wind and percussion instruments including: clarinets, flutes, saxophones, oboe, bassoon, trumpet, french horn, trombone, baritone horn, tuba, electric bass, snare drum, bass drum, mallet, and auxiliary percussion. We will work on fundamentals such as dynamics, articulation, playing in tune, and blending instruments together using various exercises and selected concert band pieces. The cost of the 1-week camp is $165. There will be one 1-week session available that runs Mondays – Thursdays: June 23 - June 26 from 9 a.m. - 12 p.m.

SAT Summer Course Research has shown that over the past ten years colleges and universities have become increasingly competitive with admissionsMost SAT prep courses charge over $1200 for a program, which reviews Math and Verbal tactics. The Paul VI community, however, wishes to reach out to our students with an affordable and effective SAT program. This program allows our students to gain the edge, and also not break the bank. The PVI SAT program gives an extensive review on the Math and Verbals sections of the SAT test. This summer our program will meet from July 7th - July 24th, Monday through Thursdays from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Students will split the time between Math and Verbal instruction and for the low cost of $600. The price will also include an official College Board SAT practice book, as well as other program materials.
